I want to make sure that my classroom library reflects the diversity of my students. In particular, I want it to include more “own-voices” books that are written by authors who come from the group they are writing about. I have seen how powerful it is for my students to hear their classmates’ own voices.
They deserve to be able to hear and learn from the own voices of well-respected authors as well. By filling our library with diverse books, written by diverse authors, you will help my students to grow as readers, thinkers, and respectful citizens of our diverse country!
We will use these books for read-alouds, for independent reading, and as mentor texts that students will study to learn about strong writing.
30 wonderfully creative and amazing students thank you!
