Kindergartners learn through play! I have a vivacious group of 20 students who just love to play. When you watch and listen to them, you can hear and see them gaining language and social skills, and practicing the literacy and math skills they have learned. My goal is to have five choice centers a week. Students will make menus and take orders in the kitchen center. Students will learn to take care of their babies and make schedules for their day in the baby care center. They will get to express their creativity in the art center with different types of art materials. Students will get to problem solve by creating buildings with the Picasso tiles. They will also get to play with cars, which every child loves.
Purposeful play is vital to a young child's development and these supplies will give them an opportunity to play! Students who struggle with English will be able to practice in a less stressful environment than during reading and math time. Shy students learn social skills as they play and come out of their shell. They use the skills they learn in math and reading without even knowing it. Help me give my students a different way to learn than worksheets and sitting at a desk!
