Where is your favorite place to read? Is it in a coffee shop? A quiet park? A comfy couch at home? Would you enjoy reading as much if you had to read while sitting in a hard chair at a table or would you rather sit in an oversized chair with a nice lamp behind you? Bean bags and pillows will help tempt my students into grabbing a book and start on a reading adventure. Currently my students are forced to sit in hard chairs at tables or to lie on nothing but the floor. Being uncomfortable makes it hard to stay focused on reading for any length of time. Having a more comfortable place to read will hopefully encourage my students to want to read more.
We are also developing interactive notebooks to help make learning English/Language Arts a little more hands on. With supplies like colored pencils, scissors and glue we can make language come alive! The colored pencils make identifying parts of speech easier and the scissors and glue will help us make foldables to put in their notebooks which are more interactive. The storage bins will help us keep everything neat and in place!
