Research shows that students who can read 40 books in their 5th grade year will have significantly higher achievement throughout the rest of their school career. My fifth grade team challenges each student in the grade to read 40 books this year. I want to use the bean bag chairs to create a reading nook for my students to use during independent reading time. A Book Nook creates a sheltered, positive atmosphere for reading independently, especially for those who may never have a safe place to read at home. Additionally, individual whiteboards are one of the most engaging ways for my students to show what they are thinking in my collaborative math lessons and when we rotate for Tier 2 interventions. However, I always run out of markers before the end of the school year. I want my students to be free to write and draw as much as they need the whole school year.
