My students start the school day on the rug. This is where I conduct morning meetings, resolve classroom issues, fix problems between peers, listen to stories, play quick fun games, read books, talk about our weekend, and come up with ways to ensure that we all have a positive day. I got my little rug years ago when an old city school was being demolished and rebuilt. Everything in that building was meant to be trash, however I spotted the rug and decided I could use it in my classroom. I've had my rug for over six years and it has endured vomit, bed bugs, blood, urine, mold and dirt. I try to keep my rug clean since it is our meeting place however my students would love a nice clean rug where they can relax and read a book, or read to a peer. This will improve activities on the rug whereby my students will have enough room and are not subject to sit on the floor.
