As a second grader, one of the most important tools and resources students can have at their fingertips are a wide variety of books. We use them in a variety of ways. Our classroom theme this year is "the Busy Bees." I chose several picture books to use as anchors and exploration throughout the year to incorporate our classroom theme into our reading experience.
Some books requested will be used during book clubs where students will read the same book together (guided by the teacher) and then discuss their reading. They will learn how to communicate and collaborate while also focusing on reading fluency, reading comprehension, and literary elements.
I also chose some books that will help students relate to social topics such as kindness and empathy.
