It is very difficult to focus on reading, math, science, and social studies while your stomach is growling or you are not feeling so fresh. Many of our students come to school either out of uniform or in dirty clothes because the resources just aren't available at home. Oftentimes, these students are on edge, thinking that everyone is talking about them or every joke is about them. Because they are constantly in defense mode, they have a hard time focusing on the curriculum.
We put forth every effort possible to meet the basic needs of our students so they can focus on being successful in the classroom.
I would like to provide healthy snacks for those who might come in late without having the opportunity to eat breakfast or for those who just didn't have enough because they missed dinner the night before. Many of our students get upset and act out, but when you get to the root of the problem, it's very simple. Maslow's basic physiological and safety needs have not been met. Help me meet those needs so our students can succeed.
