The project will help students understand how genetics ties to evolution. Moreover, students will collect, process and analyze data from plants, which will foster understanding of genotype (genes) and phenotype (physical traits). This will help students make sense of the concept of heredity and evolution of traits.
Most of my students are from low-income families. Therefore, hands-on projects will provide real-world experience to our students who would otherwise not have access. The goal is to help students understand the concepts of heredity and evolution are tied together. Using biotechnology, students will be able to explain the phenomena using class collected data.
