With the addition of mallet instruments in my classroom, my students will be able to create melodies and harmonies to enhance their music experience. The use of these instruments will be incorporated into music learning continually and is a vital part of the music education curriculum. Students will gain more meaningful musical experiences by using these instruments first hand with their classmates. They will even be able to use these instruments to accompany class activities, and compose original music.
At the moment we have 5 barred instruments in our music room and class sizes of at least thirty students.
The fact that we have so few instruments severely limits the amount we are able to use them due to the logistics of sharing. It is nearly impossible to give every student in class an opportunity to play an instrument during one class period. These xylophones will help us grow our instrumentarium so that eventually all students will be able to use them to learn and create music together!
