We focus a lot on job skills, independence, and responsibility in our program. My students are young adults who are excited to learn and take on the responsibilities of adulthood. Due to their disabilities it is crucial that we have real life experiences right in our classroom. Having lockers with locks in our very own classroom teaches the students ownership and accountability. Since we are a work program for adults with disabilities it is crucial every aspect of the classroom or lessons is a real life learning experience. These locks will give them the opportunity to keep their items safe while at work and hold them responsible for their key and belongings. The look on their faces when the lockers were donated was priceless!
