The social-emotional books and resources in this project will help my students to learn more about how to tackle and overcome their anxiety and frustration. Literature has been proven to help students understand the feelings and difficulties they may be experiencing, as well as understand the feelings and challenges of others.
Young students often do not know how to cope with anxious thoughts and feelings and how to translate these feelings into appropriate behavior. The resources I have chosen will help to use literature to teach students both about what they can do to manage their own anxiety as well as help them understand why their peers may have different struggles and challenges. My goal is for my classroom to be a supportive environment where all students help each other grow and learn to tackle any issues they are working through without judgement or alienation.
The resources I have chosen include books about anxiety, autism, resilience, mindfulness and individuality. These books will help students learn more about how they are feeling, what others might be struggling with and how to manage their emotions and responses. I also included a few fidgets to add to my classroom break area for students that need a break to help get control and re-regulate their behavior before continuing to learn. Lastly, I included a few sets of cards that guide conversations and can help students get to know one another, think through hard problems and practice mindfulness.
Thank you in advance for your help getting my classroom some social-emotional resources to help us have a great year of learning and developing as people!
