I would love to implement a Food Sharing program at my school.
We need a refrigerator in order to meet health code guidelines for storing food. My students live in an area defined as a Food Desert and have limited access to nutritious and healthy foods. My school provides USDA approved nutritious and healthy breakfast and lunch for our students. Unfortunately, nearly 40% of the food is not eaten and thrown away.
However, If we have a refrigerator, we could share the extra food with other students who may still be hungry. We could also, donate any extra food at the end of the day to families, shelters or other nonprofit organizations.
