My students having their own headphones will give them the ability to listen to different content that is on their level. Some students require more text to be read to them, so headsets are very helpful. It's much easier for students to focus on what they are doing when they don't have to listen to other student's devices. This also allows the students who are working on a lower level to not feel embarrassed because no one can hear what they are listening to.
Students will also use their personal slates, either working in a group for extra practice or working out problems they need to solve on their own. We use these whiteboards almost daily. The students are so much more engaged, verses using pencil and paper to do the same types of problems.
