My classroom consists of 26 students that deserve inspiring texts from which to learn. Some of my students have never left Indiana, while others have descended from Korea and Mexico.
They are all able to read and enjoy quality literature. Reading aloud to students is important, but doesn't allow them to comprehend at the same level they do when they have a copy in their hands.
Approximately 55 percent of our students are on free or reduced lunch. Plus, with budget cuts, teachers have received no money so far this year for supplies. Therefore, affording a whole new set of books is not very realistic.
