Students in my classroom struggle with literacy. Many of their parents do not have the ability to buy their child books to read at home. As a result, students are not reading as often as they should be, at home with their parents. My goal is to promote literacy in the classroom and at home with these book bags.
Students will be able to take appropriate leveled books home with them to practice reading. They will also get to pick books that they are actually interested in reading. The best way to increase reading capabilities is by practicing more often. First grade is a very important reading year. If students are not practicing at home, getting them to reach their goal becomes very difficult.
