My students are 4-5 years old Preschoolers who attend a preschool program at an elementary school that is a schoolwide Title I, moderate poverty school. Our preschool program is a School Readiness Language Development Program where students develop oral language skills, social and emotional skills and basic academic school readiness skills. The students come with different needs, and with wide range of background knowledge in all curricular areas. I have students who are English language learners who are learning to communicate and to use academic language in and out of classrooms. In this preschool program the students learn basic reading and writing skills, math and vocabulary development and many other school readiness skills. The students also develop social skills by learning to share and take turns, understand and express feelings appropriately. My students need to develop the basic skills in all areas to be prepared for an academically demanding Kindergarten.
