The surrounding neighborhood consists of older single family homes and 5 multi-family apartments . Carrillo is a Vanguard Magnet and Title I school. Approximately 97% of the students at Carrillo are Hispanic with 1.83% African-American, 2% White and less than 1% Asian. Economically disadvantaged students comprise approximately 84% of the population. The At Risk population is 79%. Approximately 34% of the students are Gifted and Talented and 4% are classified as Special Education English Language Learners (ELL) comprise 56 % of the students and 48 % of students are served in the Bilingual program.
