At my school, we do not have access to a lot of instructional materials. We occasionally have access to laptops so students are able to conduct research on their own, but they are often forced to pair up with one another and share computers. This limits the direction students are able to go in when a topic really interests them.
Junior Scholastic is a resource that would be current, relevant and make students aware of what is going on in the world. Using this text, my students would be able to make connections to how current events connect to the past. They would be able to choose articles that interest them and explore more topics that they might not already know much about. This will help to engage them and encourage them to take more ownership over their learning.
