Students will build aquaponic units that will house talapia and garden vegetables. They will learn the interrelationship between the fish and plants and how the system utilizes all waste for optimum growth. Students will plant and harvest vegetables as well as mature fish for consumption.
Aquaponics will enable students to learn how to grow food in a sustainable environment using less resources than usual.
Students will learn how to design, build and care for the units as well as the plants and animals involved. This will give students ownership over their project and be more meaningful in their education experience.
