My goal is to use reflective writing in my science class to help students move from an 鈥淚 can鈥檛鈥 fixed mindset to an 鈥淚 can do anything鈥 growth mindset. Reflective writing is not only a way to interpret scientific text or analyze study practices, but can be used to help students realize that they control their future. As they review daily situations from a cause and effect approach they begin to understand that they have the ability to form solutions that will help them be overcomers in life. For my project I would like to ask for 150 one subject spiral bound notebooks. This would allow each student I teach during the 2019-2020 academic school year the opportunity to have their own personal reflective journal. This will allow my students to not only reflect on scientific text, and analyze the effects of their academic pursuits, but can be the technique that enables students with a lifelong useful practice in which they will review situations in a calm, reflective, logical manner in order to formulate peaceable solutions. Not only will this practice of reflective writing allow students to view their obstacles as a stepping stones from which they learn as they move toward success; they will be equipped with a tool they can use to become the happy social and emotional leaders of the future that our nation needs.
