With a full class of 16 students, things can sometimes get a bit loud. I don't believe that learning in the classroom should be silent with the teacher talking and students listening. Learning involves a dialogue between student and teacher as well as student and student.
The environment in my classroom is collaborative and inviting; a place where students aren't afraid to speak up and interact with each other. This gives us a classroom that isn't always silent. While I encourage students to collaborate and discuss, there also comes a time for students to work independently. Specifically, students in my classroom interact with technology on a daily basis. These students deserve the ability to focus and work independently even if there are other collaborations going on around them. Having a class set of headphones would ensure that each student has the opportunity to focus and work independently. What's great about headphones is they can also be useful when not using technology, to help students with sensory issues block out unwanted sounds and noises.
