This year I am starting something new. While I was on Facebook this summer I came across a group called classroombookaday.
Each day of the school year I will read a picture book to my 5th graders. That will be 180 books. It won't be read for much discussion, but instead for the enjoyment of hearing a story.
Each year I am noticing more and more that students coming to 5th grade enjoy reading less and less. They do it because they have to. My goal this year is to get my class of 22 students interested in reading again and actually enjoy it.
