I teach all grade levels in an elementary campus. I have creative individuals that struggle accepting themselves at times. With the sewing machines, technology, and supplies, I can give my students the ability to celebrate and dig deep to reflect on their personal selves. All of my students look forward to the gifted and talented class. This class is like no other. Our class provides the students with some time to themselves. The students get to design a quilt story about their personal life. This helps them set goals for the future and reflect on their interest as an elementary student. The quilt squares will feature characters, choice of college, favorite books, favorite memory, family traditions, and something they like about their culture and customs. The technology would allow me the opportunity to assign a variety of research to study and learn about the different quilts. The students can research the purpose of the quilt. They can learn about the different patterns in quilting. The possibilities are endless.
I would like to give my students the opportunity to type an autobiography to correlate with their quilt.
I would love to give them the opportunity to use the sewing machines and iPads to design their own personal quilt to keep at the end of the year.
