Our school is entering its third year of Student-Led Social Emotional Lessons. This initiative was originally created in 2017 by three colleagues at our school with the goal making SEL student-centered and developing student-leaders.
5th grade students from three different classes (including general education and integrated co-teaching classrooms) collaborate to plan, create, and implement a series of literature-based social emotional lessons for all K-4th grade classes in our school.
This project will give student-leaders access to the newest literature to utilize in their lessons for the 2019-2020 school year. Each lesson is student run and includes a read aloud and social emotional learning activity.
In addition, all teachers in the building have access to all SEL literature to utilize in their own lessons and classroom instruction.
This selection of 50 children's books is an amazing array of literature focusing on kindness and celebrating differences and diversity within our school and world communities. We hope you enjoy our selections!
