The three questions we explore for the course are: 1) How do my choices impact my future? 2) How do I persevere in the face of adversity? and 3) What are my responsibilities to society? The Wave will address 1) & 3). A Rip in Heaven will address 2) & 3). Adding these two books gives our students additional choices for their reading. We know that choice is a great motivator for adolescents!
After reading several books for each question, our students will create "declarations of beliefs", specifically incorporating textual examples and themes from the books they chose to read, answering the three guiding questions.
