Various instructional goals will be able to be accessed through the use of the provided materials. The headphones and CD player will be used as a part of our listening station which includes listening to audiobooks to enhance student comprehension, especially for beginning readers and those who struggle with comprehension. Phonics instruction can be incorporated through the use of hands-on activities such as the magnetic letter catch for letter identification, letter-sound identification, and word building. There are various levels of abilities in my classroom, ranging from emerging readers to students with more advanced reading skills.
The Tabletop Light Panel will be accompanied by letters for word building, sensory manipulatives to be used with phonics instruction, and sensory input. Sensory break is a large part of the day in an Autism classroom. Therefore, the kinetic sand will afford students the opportunity to get the sensory input they seek between instructional time.
Whether it be hands on, visual, or movement based, the needs of my students will be met as they are presented with instruction that is so engaging it will seem like play, keeping them attentive, motivated and eager to learn in an environment made specifically for them.
