Most of the students I teach have not had Ceramics before. We start with the very basics, but quickly learn enough skills to create quite marvelous and personal projects that are cherished by students and their families and friends.
Projects that students are most excited about are the ones they get to paint with glaze. When students recognize their next project is with glaze they get that much more intrigued. Being able to explain to them that colors in the jar are going to change through the firing process, it blows their mind. "I'm painting with liquid glass!?" That is awesome!
