2nd graders are expected to clearly express themselves through three types of writing: narrative, opinion, and informative. However this doesn't happen over night.
Perfect practice makes perfect. Through intentional writing students learn how to express their thoughts in written form. This is a critical skill that will help them in their future of 3rd grade.
While most 7-8 year old have no issues verbally expressing their thoughts and opinions, the translation from verbal to written is not necessarily a smooth one. Through guidance of daily journal writing, students build the confidence necessary to achieve the written task placed before them.
