Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. During independent reading times my students choose "just right books" that spark their interest and match their reading abilities. They also choose a location in the classroom that they feel will be the best place for them to "build their reading muscles". Currently my students are choosing to read in a variety of locations in our room such as: at different tables and or sitting or laying on the floor. Making sure students are comfortable while giving them a wide variety of book choices are both essential components to them increasing their reading skills and developing a love for reading.
I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given the power of choice. They are more engaged, better focused and overall happier than when they are confined to sitting at their desk.
The products that I have selected will help empower my student by giving them additional book choices and seating options. The interactive books will help them to develop the habit of reading and learning new things early. These books selected will help to engage and capture their interest as well. The wobble stools as an additional seating option in our classroom will be especially beneficial for some students that just need to get the wiggles out. The comfy floor seats and sit spots will also add to variety of seating choices available in our class. Both seating options are lightweight and can be easily used in many areas of the classroom.
I have seen how choice can positively affect my students demeanor and hope that the additional options this project provides will help our class to develop a life long love for reading.
