Students use my space for a variety of reasons. One of the major reasons is to complete their credit recovery classes online. It is important that during this time students can detach from the stressors of their outside life in order to access their online content classes and continue to make progress towards graduation. Often times they are hungry, stressed out and need a therapeutic space to help regulate their emotions.
Having comfortable seating, stress balls, earphones to ensure a quiet calm atmosphere, and snacks really goes a long way in the 53 minutes they are with me. Being able to provide the basics for my students will mean a lot to them. Many are focusing on strategies to help regulate themselves, but having the physical tools to do so will make it much easier for them to be successful.
