With copies of Eric Carle's books, LEP (Limited English Proficient) students will have the opportunity to enhance reading skills. The books are chocked full of reading strategies: sequencing, rhyme, repetition, problem/solution, cause/effect, vocabulary and the list goes on.
Younger students will enjoy hearing and seeing the words in Spanish format, matching them to books of the same titles already in our school library in English format. Felt figures of "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" crawling through fruits on a felt board will allow all age groups to reenact and retell the stories touching yet another great strategy. Want another activity? Join a different storyteller reading "Brown Bear, Brown Bear" looking for brightly colored animal characters. What a fun way to learn.
The books will be part of our school library allowing parents and students to check them out and share the reading experience.....not to mention the authors unique style and absolutely beautiful artwork. Parents and students reading....yeah!!! A win-win for all.
Believe.... that it is true... "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" is bi-lingual and he wants to share with children of all backgrounds.
