My students will develop concrete concepts by representing scenarios in our math program with legos. This is a great way to keep our students involved and engaged in their learning. We will be using them in lessons to help develop cardinality, sorting, comparing, addition and subtracting stories, develop fine motor skills and the language development needed to describe and express their ideas to each other. It provides opportunities for them to collaborate and develop a thinking community within our classroom.
As a teacher it is sometimes hard to find activities that are motivating for all of my students. Legos are no doubt a universal language and highly engaging to everyone; no matter their ability level.
