Kindergarten sets the foundation for a child’s future educational career. Kindergarten has evolved and is much different than when most of us were 5 and 6 years old. The students spend the year identifying letters by name and sound, manipulating letter sounds to read and write new words, creating sentences using those new words. In Reading they are learning about characters, setting, sequence of events, non-fiction, and constructing their opinions. In writing they are learning how to write a sentence with correct punctuation, grammar, and phonetically spelling new words. In Math they are learning about numbers (as a word, symbol, and quantity), 2D/3D shapes, addition/subtraction, decomposing numbers, measurement and graphing. I try to deliver my instruction using many different centers to help children with different learning styles (visual, audio, tactile and kinesthetic learners) but I’m limited to just my classroom supplies. These Chrome Books will help my students by working in small groups or independently on tasks that are aligned with the Kindergarten Learning Standards that they are expected to meet by the end of the year. It will help them to achieve their personal goals by having more tools available to them and their learning style.
