The Social Studies department at my school has made it our goal to actively work to increase our student's reading comprehension, critical thinking, and discussion skills. We can do this by presenting more current events that, through discussion, connect the past to a student's current impact and obligation in today's world.
Articles in Junior Scholastic highlight modern history that are written in grade-level language that help build knowledge in American and world history, geography, economics, and civics. Each article is supported by close-reading questions and skill-based activities that prepare students for the types of questions they'll encounter on standardized assessments.
