I want to create a classroom that is warm, inviting and inspires my students to learn and grow. As students with disabilities, I am providing support not just academically but socially and emotionally also. They may require some flexible seating to meet their needs behaviorally. Some of them may need a quiet space to lay down on a carpet to de-escalate, relax with a book or activity when they are overstimulated or may prefer the carpet to do some of their learning. The organization bins will allow me to stay organized and prepared daily, so I am always prepared for what the day may bring. In addition, I plan to organize the students’ work in their own bins, so they can come in ready to learn. Providing clear expectations, organization and structure reduces behavior issues and keeps students engaged and on task. The multi-sensory items will help reduce anxiety or behavior escalation by allowing students to choose an item they may enjoy.
Providing an engaging environment will allow my students to grow academically, emotionally and socially. They need an environment where they can feel safe and is inviting for them to grow in all areas of need.
