The books in this project represent a wide variety of reading levels for my students. More importantly they all showcase Hispanic characters. Half of my students are Hispanic, some of them non-English speakers, and they all deserve to have great literature that showcases their culture.
I notice a tremendous increase in my students desire to read when there are books available that represent who they are as Hispanic learners. My students deserve a classroom library that matches the diversity found in our class. I want nothing more than for my students to be life long readers. For that to happen, I need to create an environment that allows them to relate to their books. There is no better way to accomplish this than to provide them with culturally diverse books that they can connect to.
