All my students this year are second language learners living in a low income community. Most of them live in apartment buildings where they are not allowed to play outdoors. Some of them rent a garage or a room with limited indoor space to play. They are also restricted to play outside. A lot of my students are overweight and seem lethargic most of the time.
My students attend a great school school where 100% of the population receive free lunch, and where Title 1 categorical funds are used to provide students with many academic resources to support their learning in Language Arts and Math. This lack of funds leaves little room to purchase the much needed equipment to teach physical education skills that will help students improve physical and mental health.
