This is my first year teaching, and I am trying my best to create a strong culture of literacy. I work in a Title I school with most students coming from low income households. Classroom funding is limited so I would really love to provide a variety of books and an environment in which they enjoy reading in. I want them to feel comfortable and at home in our classroom!
I want my students to develop positive reading habits and a genuine love of reading. Studies have shown that if one struggles as a reader or writer, it is nearly impossible to succeed academically and I do not want that for my students. My unique classroom often focuses on language learning, developing their skills in reading & mathematics, and self-advocacy skills for deaf and hard of hearing children.
