In order for students to grow, there must be checkpoints of assessment, formally and informally. At these checkpoints, students will realize if they need to continue studying/practicing the topic or move on once they show mastery. In my classroom, we use technology. I rent the iPads in advance from our school library. We use all types of apps, such as Kahoot, Quizizz, Quizlet, Padlet, Flipgrid, Schoology quizzes, Schoology discussions, Geogebra, google docs, google drive, etc. Technology has become a big part of their lives so much so that when they see that the objective says they’ll be able to demonstrate mastery via kahoot/quizizz they get so excited and prepare themselves for an excellent lesson. The best part is that they are able to receive immediate feedback after answering each question on kahoot/quizizz. Whereas before, it would take take 5-14 days later to hear whether or not they solved an equation correctly or matched the correct term with its definition.
