I am looking to help my students integrate technology into the classroom. Most of my students do not have access to the internet or a device that they can use at home. This will afford me the opportunity to help them learn and be engaged in the learning process. The children build meaning from everything they do on an iPad because it is visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. They can use QR codes to scan read aloud and discuss it with their friends. Individuals can record themselves reading and be excited by their “5 minutes” of fame. Each child is genuinely excited about what they are learning- best science, math, literacy, or social studies based.
Technology in the classroom helps to redefine education and how our students learn. Students will be able to take an iPad use it to help reinforce the skills that they were taught that day. They will learn how to take care of the iPad. The students will learn to document their work and start to make their own portfolio. In addition, having iPads will help to individualize their lessons and make them accountable for their work. Students will be able to collaborate with their classmates through different technology applications.
With the countless online resources, technology can help improve teaching and close the gap for the at-risk population. Technology can help to encourage active participation in the classroom which is also a very important factor for increased knowledge retention. No one learns in the same way because of different learning styles and different abilities. Technology provides great opportunities for making learning more effective for everyone with different needs.
