In a high tech age, teens are less engaged in reading print texts independently as a leisure activity of choice. By choosing appealing copies of informational texts that magazines provide, our 9th graders will build/maintain the habit of reading on weekends and earn extra credit with this program. They will also be asked to write a response.0
From this follow-up reading activity, we will reinforce lessons relating to goals in reading including use of text evidence, making inferential responses, summarizing, etc. And there's a bonus, teachers will provide a healthy snack along with the magazines in our "traveling" print library.
