I teach at a continuation high school and have researched alternative seating. In doing research I have found that there has been improvement in student focus and learning outcomes. I brought in a couch and a standing desk to test it out in my math class and found that students that would normally fidget or be distracted were more focused and were able to complete the days lesson. They let me know that they were more comfortable and felt the classroom to be less informal and were more relaxed and open to learning. There are other classes in our district that have already transformed their classrooms with alternative seating and are having success with students as well.
I cannot do this alone and need your help to transform our classroom into a positive and welcoming learning environment that will benefit the different seating preferences that my students need in order to maximize their learning potential. Thank you for taking the time to read and consider helping our classroom.
