My students are the kind of children who are excited about art, and who do not fear to express themselves. They applaud when I walk in, share their thoughts, their visions. Together we come up with ways to make those images appear in whatever format, usually using recycled goods. Photography has become something that intrigues them. How do we play with the light to render something banal into something special? How can we see beauty in a place where there isn't any to the naked eye. My students have nothing, they come to school without materials or bags, their uniforms are usually in bad shape but their enthusiasm never fails. They point to things and notice shapes and colors, and make meaning in a place where chaos reigns.
