I serve students who, before COVID-19 came about, were already showing skill deficits in reading, math, and early literacy skills. Because I work as a k-5 specialist, the needs of the students I serve span several grade levels. Students who lack these crucial foundational skills at the elementary level will have reading and math difficulties throughout their school career unless they receive appropriate instruction and intervention.
Phonics foundational skills
Know and apply letter patterns to read words appropriate to the grade level
Decode regularly spelled one-syllable words.
Sight Word Instruction
Recognize and read grade-appropriate irregularly spelled words.
Reading Appropriate Difficulty of Text
Using phonics and sight word skills, students will be able to read material appropriate for their grade level.
Math Concepts
Usage of ten frames to build conceptual understanding of adding or subtracting numbers. Usage of number lines to show understanding of number sense
