Deaf children have a unique challenge with reading. Books are written in English, not ASL. My students are learning how to connect the English word to their very different language.
Reading material that interests deaf children, while at the same time at their grade level, is imperative to GET them to read! With our new classroom sets, we will be able to incorporate reading groups and individualize goals for each student!
With this project, our reading library will begin! Right now we have a lot of old books that have been there for years and the students pay them no mind. I cannot wait to see this change.
