Thru our arts & wellness program, 9th-12th graders will learn to channel their feelings & experiences along with their fears and questions into positive change for the school community and beyond. The program includes incorporating various forms of Art including drawing and painting. Students will utilize various art supplies to create art projects to express their feelings, thoughts through art.
It is essential to combat the alarming increase in depression, anxiety, conflict and suicide ideation reported amongst my students.
This program is an essential response to the COVID19 pandemic. Art education programs are significantly effective in raising the self-esteem, self-efficacy, and success factors for students.
Beyond building wellness and mental resilience for the students within the school environment, the program where they can use art making tools every week opens up dialogue between the students and our BIPOC artist around prominent issues including systemic racism, trauma of poverty, internal and external violence, and instills the students with agency- a sense that they can do something to change their circumstances. It brings school wide community healing, thriving, mindfulness, ownership, and expression. With your support we can literally put the power to create, dream and succeed in the hands of our kids.
