A welcome alternative to direct instruction, Break-out Boxes give my students the opportunity to review information taught in our class while interacting with their peers. Students love this activity! It helps them exercise higher-level thinking skills as they apply what they've learned in class in different ways.
The category of the classroom that has suffered the most during COVID is group work. Students have felt isolated, even in a room filled with other students. The Break-out Box activities encourage them to interact in meaningful ways. The nature of the activity means that each student can contribute to the success of his/her team.
