My preschool students are still in the process of developing their language and speech. I use visuals/pictures to help my students understand expectations and also communicate. I love creating personalized books for either an individual student's use (an individual schedule) or for the class library (a visual story about using safe feet). Whenever possible I print pictures of my real students, not clip art, because the children love seeing themselves depicted in books or around the classroom.
By creating personalized books for our classroom routine or expectations, students are not only hearing a direction but seeing what that direction looks like. I teach preschool in a blended setting, therefore I service both typically developing children and children with special rights to services.
Visual prompts are beneficial for all of my students (and teachers, they help me from losing my voice)!
