Flashlight Fridays! To encourage reading, on Fridays we will turn off the lights and give the students time to read any place in the classroom with our flashlights.
Giving the students the choice of where to sit in the classroom (under their desk, in the class library, or in flexible seating) and having the lights off makes reading more interesting and fun to them.
I have done this activity with students in the past while I was a student teacher and the students LOVED it. I am excited to start incorporating this into my class each week. This will allow students to experience reading in a different way, and get my students excited about reading!
