One of the greatest things about being a geometry teacher is the fact that there are quite literally TONS of visuals, diagrams, pictures, etc. However, the students also need to make these diagrams and pictures themselves, so they learn just how this information came about. The compasses (used to create circles, copy lines, and prove points about shapes) are an essential tool for students to work with more than just a piece of paper and pencil to create easy-to-understand pictures. Calculators promote higher-order thinking, expand the scope of student's thinking, and help better understand intangible concepts through tangible means. This project will help these students in more ways than one, in more lessons than you can count on 100 people's fingers, and in so many years to come. Individual whiteboards help students feel as if they can physically erase their mistakes without feeling self-conscious, something that I love to promote: the building of self-esteem, especially in mathematics. The individual erasers and fine point dry erase markers are pivotal in building self-confidence, erasing mistakes and trying again, and constantly doing so in a creative, different way.
